About TNPC

Tenney Nursery and Parent Center is an enriching preschool and parent
cooperative. We offer several preschool classes and a parent/child playgroup.
TNPC operates with a Board of Directors made up of volunteer parents and staff
who are elected to work closely with the Executive Director. This partnership is a
true hallmark of Tenney Nursery.

TNPC integrates a play-based developmentally appropriate curriculum. Teachers
facilitate learning with monthly themes building on the child’s natural curiosity and
motivation to explore his/her world. Language and early literacy, mathematical
thinking, scientific exploration, creative representation of arts and music,
community exploration, health, safety, social-emotional development and physical
development are naturally integrated in all areas of our learning environment
and curriculum. The use of curriculum-based media is limited to developmentally
appropriate programming.

Parents and teachers together have built a successful program and this enriches the preschool experience for all involved. Every family's involvement, whether it is large or small, is beneficial to the entire community. Through their involvement and volunteer efforts, parents demonstrate to their children that they value both the school and their experience there. As a member of the co-op you are able to share your talents/skills with both your child's classroom and the school itself and you are able to help set the future direction for the school.

Each family is required to help out in certain ways. Families bring in snacks for their child's classes on a rotating basis. We also encourage parents to parent help in the class on their snack day. Helping in the classroom is a rewarding experience for both the child and parent. Parents are also required to participate in parent orientation night, parent work day and fundraising. Families are offered three levels of fundraising sponsor levels to choose from. Parents can increase their involvement by volunteering for other jobs or serving as a board member.

Located on Madison's near east side, in the East Isthmus neighborhood, Tenney Nursery and Parent Center is within walking distance of beautiful Tenney Park, Willy St. Co-Op and Lapham School.
