The curriculum at Tenney revolves around the child. Teachers facilitate learning by building on the child's natural curiosity and motivation to explore his/her world. Language, math, science, fine and gross motor skills, art and music are naturally integrated in all areas of our learning environment and curriculum. Tenney is unique since it is a parent cooperative. Parents and teachers together have built a successful program and this enriches the preschool experience for all involved. Every family's involvement, whether it is large or small, is beneficial to the entire community. Through their involvement and volunteer efforts, parents demonstrate to their children that they value both the school and their experience there. As a member of the co-op you are able to share your talents/skills with both your child's classroom and the school itself and you are able to help set the future direction for the school. Each family is required to help out in certain ways. Families bring in snacks for their classes on a rotating basis and also attend parent work days. We also encourage parents to parent help in the class on their snack day. Helping in the classroom is a rewarding experience for both the child and parent. It is also a great opportunity to get involved and meet some of your child's classmates. Parents can increase their involvement by volunteering to serve as a board member or to assist with fundraising and family social events, working closely with the staff and executive director. This partnership is a true hallmark of Tenney. Located on Madison's near east side, between Lakes Mendota and Monona, Tenney Nursery and Parent Center is within walking distance of beautiful Tenney Park. Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood |
